History of manchester city.

Manchester City Football Club, commonly known as Man City, is a professional football club based in Manchester, England. The club was founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and then finally Manchester City in 1894.

The club initially played in the regional leagues, and it wasn't until 1899 that they were elected to the Football League. In 1904, they won their first major trophy, the FA Cup, and the following season they were crowned champions of England for the first time.

In the years that followed, Manchester City had a number of ups and downs, with relegations and promotions, as well as some successes, including another FA Cup win in 1934. However, it wasn't until the late 1960s that the club enjoyed a period of sustained success.

Under the management of Joe Mercer and with players such as Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee, Manchester City won the First Division title in 1968, the FA Cup in 1969, and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970.

However, the club's fortunes declined in the 1970s and 1980s, and they were even relegated to the third tier of English football in 1998.

In 2008, Manchester City was bought by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, and they embarked on a new era of success. The club invested heavily in new players and infrastructure, and in 2011 they won the FA Cup for the first time in 42 years.

The following season, Manchester City won the Premier League title for the first time in 44 years, in dramatic fashion, scoring two late goals in injury time to beat Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the season. They went on to win the Premier League again in 2014, 2018, 2019, and 2021, as well as numerous other domestic and European trophies.

Today, Manchester City is one of the most successful football clubs in England and the world, with a fan base that extends far beyond Manchester.
